Pulse Day of Remembrance 2023 – Reflection

It’s been seven years since 49 lives were taken at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Since June 12th, 2016, there have been 3,563 mass shootings [as of 9 AM (GMT) 12/06/23].

And while today is remembrance for those we lost in the Pulse shooting, I can’t help but be angry because I know that 49 people died and nothing was done to prevent it from happening again.

Especially considering that Orlando, which became the deadliest mass shooting to have happened in modern-day USA, became the second deadliest mass shooting after the massacre in Paradise, Nevada – just 15 months later. How no practical action was taken to prevent another atrocity like this, leading to a further 411 injured and 61 deaths in Nevada… Baffles me.

Let’s remember those we lost at Pulse and feel the shame that we promised to do better, and failed them.
