Beautiful Depression – Poem

I’m smiling,
I’m laughing,
But inside I’m crying,
Tearing myself apart.
I joke,
You laugh,
You smile,
I walk away to hide
The sadness coming back.
It’s there,
always there.
And while I wait
for it to leave,
It brings pains
Of the past rushing back.
My head fills,
pooling with thoughts of death.

Wanting to die,
Wanting my last breath.
But as I sit here,
Next to you.
You remind me that
Not all life is blue.
You show me it gets better,
A flicker of light
In the dark.
And I see you.
You’ve been here,
Through this.
You grew.
You have depression,
But you know what to do,
So I’ll learn from you.
You’re beautiful.
And one day,
I’ll be beautiful, too.
