Bullying – Poem

I deal with it at home;
I dealt with it in school.
I deal with it online;
I dealt with it in college.
When we grow up,
we’re told everything is going to be different
But when I went to work,
it was very much the same.
I was told to be myself;
I was told I’d be happy,
and I was…
Until it happened,
I was humiliated;
discriminated against
because of my gender and sexuality.
All because I should be happy
with the skin God gave me.
But, I’m not;
I’m not happy.
Not because of my body,
my desires,
or because of my mind;
but because of them.
The ones who believe I am unhappy because I exist the way I do.
I was happy,
with my being,
until they came along.
