When you’re chronically ill, mentally unwell, and/or disabled – you might have issues with food.
Whether it’s cooking a full meal, or just eating regularly. So, I want to remind you of this:
If you’re struggling to make a meal, or don’t have the energy to make food regularly: buy ready meals – Iceland have some that are £1 a piece. Make sandwiches – fill it with whatever you like. If you have the money for a takeaway – do it.
We shouldn’t be shamed for eating premade food, eating sandwiches for three days in a row, or living off of takeaways when we’re just trying to survive. The most important part is that you’re giving your body sustenance.
So, please: go get something to eat, anything to eat. Give your body energy so that it can better serve you.
Now, I’m going to go have a packet of microwave rice with tuna, tomatoes, cheese, and mayo mixed in… Yes, it sounds sad – but it’s the best I can do, and it gives me the fats, carbs, and protein I need.
Fuel is fuel.

Support My Content
I’m a firm believer in free content – specifically when it comes to news. Everyone should have the ability to educate themselves without putting themselves in debt. That’s why my content on current events, experiences, and advocacy is free!
Though, hosting a website and producing content regularly costs time and money. So, if you like my work and want to support me, consider tipping me! You can pick a price; even £1 can help! This isn’t a reoccurring tip – this is a one-time-only cost!
Hi Theodora, a great blog post reminding those of us with chronic illness not to feel ashamed or embarrassed to use ready meals. A tip I use is using packet rice so I don’t have to stand for ages cooking rice and carrying heavy colanders to the sink. Keep being a blogging warrior, Becca – Mummy the Fibro Warrior x
